Years ago I was in a situation that felt like a 'Catch 22'. No matter what I was choosing, it didn't seem like there was any way forward. I had no money.
My business had died when I moved cities. I'd left a narcissistic relationship and my self-love was at an all time low. In the process I'd lost my
house and had a heap of debt from the legal insanity. There was no fast, obvious way out of the muddle.
So I started asking for ridiculous things. Things that seemed so far out of reach and out of my reality that it was easier to ask for that than to change the situation that was right in front of me.
The willingness to ask for crazy things and be open to receiving whatever came was the beginning of a new way of living for me. I started asking for what I desired, rather than what I thought I could have or what I was trying to fix.
Within a year of starting with the ridiculous requests I started Creativity Lab - a business empire I love enormously. Then I began receiving invitations to present my Creativity Lab adventures overseas where I get to create with amazing people in many different ways. I've learned to ride a horse and been horse-riding all over the world, been on incredible game rides in South Africa, and launched my 'Stop Waiting, Start Creating' book from Amsterdam...
I've been featured on other people's podcasts and in their magazines. I've sold my art at events and online (even though I can't draw!). I even created Business Alchemy Lab in collaboration with my first intern program. I never imagined these things would show up like they have.
There have been so many wonderful surprises and the list of magic just keeps growing! Most of this is created by being willing to show up in the world and ASK for what would be fun for me!
"What is it you refuse to ask for... so you don't have to suffer the rejection of being given a big fat 'NO!'... or so that you don't have to be uncomfortable... or so that you don't have to have an easy life, or a playful adventure, or even just a really good time?"
Ask and you shall receive is a truth. It's how the Universe works. What could you ask for that you haven't asked for because you didn't think it was possible?
What if, instead of setting goals, or having a bucket list or a vision board, you start asking... for the impossible, for the magic, for the quantum leaps, for the big bold choices that will allow every day to be an incredible, expansive adventure? What would be possible then?
When I was asking for the small things that I thought would fix my life, I wasn't asking for enough. The Universe didn't know how to deliver that small. It was showing me there was a much greater way forward.
Asking BIG started with having the courage to ask. Asking even though you have no idea what could be possible. It started with removing the 'shoulds' and embracing the coulds, even if I didn't know the how. When you ask from this space it's like taking a step into the unknown. You can't see the future, you can only put your foot down in the next space that feels light and expansive.
Today... make a list of ten impossible things you are asking for. And then, keep asking for them. Take the inspired actions that feel great to you, even if they seem to have no connection to what you've asked for. This is how you play with creating your life. A year from now, let me know what showed up! If you don't kill your requests by deciding they are taking too long to come to fruition, you might be hugely surprised!
In January 2017, we're playing with The BIG Ask - it's a strategic playground for asking for (and receiving) way more than you imagine possible!
